In 1963, Jan and Dean recorded a little song called 'Surf City'. It became the first surf song to become a number one hit – and forever linked the Woody to surfing. In 1995, to celebrate its role in American culture, the US Postal Service issued a commemorative stamp honoring this icon. Of course, things do change. In 1963, that first class stamp would have been five cents!
