In a sense, we’re all wandering dogs, searching for our place in this world.
Yet so often, we subdue our adventurous spirits for the monotony of everyday life. We forget that there really is a whole big world out there to explore, and so many different people to meet.
But adventure is a part of every exciting life - and no matter how busy you are, there’s always time to squeeze in a little adventure. It’s what keeps life fresh, exciting, and new. And it also helps you expand your perspective and grow as a person.
So, we’re going to try and rev up your adventurous spirit a little bit today! Here are 3 movies that made us want to explore the world - and may just make you want to do the same!
1. Into the Wild
“When you want something in life, you gotta reach out and grab it.”
Based on a true story, Into the Wild documents the adventures of Christopher McCandless as he tries to find the deeper meaning of life beyond material things. He donates over $20k of his after-college savings to charity, then embarks on a journey throughout the USA and Mexico that eventually lands him in the wilderness of Alaska.
It’s inspirational, uplifting, and sad all at the same time. But one thing is for sure - it’ll make you want to get up off that couch and explore the world!
2. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
“To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life.”
Walter Mitty is a regular guy with a gigantic imagination. He starts out as a lowly photograph developer for a dying magazine. From there, he finally stops imagining, and finally starts going on the adventures he’s always dreamed of (and perhaps never knew were possible).
The movie showcases amazing scenery from Iceland and several other breathtaking landscapes. It’ll make you stop dreaming of traveling the world, and start booking your flights!
3. The Motorcycle Diaries
“I finally felt myself lifted definitively away on the winds of adventure toward worlds I envisaged would be stranger than they were, into situations I imagined would be much more normal than they turned out to be.”
This is a true story as well, based on the adventures of a young Ernesto Che Guevara, who went on to be one of the leading men of the Cuban revolution (alongside Fidel Castro).
It documents Guevara’s journeys through South America, featuring beautiful sites of several countries along the way. It’s a movie that transcends politics, and one that will definitely give you the adventurous itch!
You only get one shot at this thing called “life”. So, don’t allow yourself to stagnate for too long and forget just how many awesome and new things this world has to discover.
Embrace the spirit of a wandering dog. Seek adventure, throw yourself into new experiences, and be willing to take risks. In doing so, you’ll always feel truly alive!
